A look back

2008, Greg primarily used building his new car, the GUMM superstock. The economy pretty much slowed down the progress, and the loss of a potential sponsor also hindered it as well. But, Greg is back and ready for the 2009 season with a vengence! With the support of a loving family, and loyal friends, he is coming back stronger than ever. We have high hopes for the new GUMM superstock.

Racing is a family sport to the Owens. Greg has a lot of support on and off the track.

2007 was an exciting year for Greg! He essentially came back to the 2007 racing year, taking his old 'red' camaro that he previously raced out of storage and bringing it back on the track, but with a totally new look, bringing it "Back in Black"!

The car was previously owned by 'Tim Clark', who won '13' features in it.

Greg, bought the car from Tim in 2003, and won '3' three features in it. Due to a rules change about Unibody Cars, the car sit idle until 2007, when Greg decided to race at Lawrenceburg, where they allow camaros. See the photos section of Greg getting the car ready.

In 2007 at Lawrenceburg, after some setup changes, and engine issue fixes, Greg won '3' three more features in the camaro, several heat wins and won 2nd place in points at Lawrenceburg Speedway.

Greg started racing when he was just '18' years old in the Mini Stock Class. Greg won features, a 'most improved award', and several points awards before moving on to the purestock class. (See the Awards Section below for details).

Some of the tracks he has raced at: Lawrenceburg, North Vernon (Twin Cities), Osgood, Moler, ThunderValley, and Bloomington. His favorite places to race are at County Fairs. Some of the fairgrounds he has raced at are: Brownstown, Bloomington, Osgood, Madison, Scottsburg and Greensburg.

Greg is employed as an operator at Omara Contracting in North Vernon, Indiana. Greg got re-married July 7th, 2007 to Victoria (Short) Owens. Greg has two children, Natalie and Braden, and two step-children, Briana and Evan. He now lives with his wife in North Vernon, Vicki, who is employed as a 'Systems Engineer' at Cummins Inc., in Columbus, Indiana.

His wife Victoria grew up around racing, and the fit came together. VIctoria, in support of her husband, started the racing news site, Indiana Dirt Scoops, which took off and grew to more than 8 states, and now is known as "Dirt Scoops". The site primarily promotes small town tracks and drivers, hoping to help get thier name out and to help them in the economically challenged world today, to keep the racing sport alive.

Greg now drives the official Dirt Scoops Dirt superstock.

Greg's other passion when not racing, is hunting. He primarily loves to bow hunt.
