Greg Owens Racing News! Most current at the top 07/30/2010 Union County Speedway - Drew a 70, which was dead last. LOL. During hot laps, Greg said the car was still hooked up as before (with his old tires). He ran the same tires as he ran the night before at Brownstown during the heat and feature. He started last in the heat (7th) and finished 4th. Union County Inverts, which started him on the pole in the feature. It was a battle between him and Chris DeWeese, who got into lap traffic accident, and Greg went high and was able to avoid the mess. This put him into first, with Rahe behind him. Greg led the rest of the race to the checkered. HIS FIRST SUPERSTOCK WIN! Finally got that monkey off his back!
07/29/2010 Brownstown Speedway - Drew and 86 - Started last row, 4th heat - finished 3rd and made the feature. Finished 15th in feature. Greg said the car was pushing and he just could not get anyway during the feature. 07/24/2010 Union County Speedway - Finished 2nd in the heat, was in second during the white flag lap in the feature and broke! Greg and the car seem to love this track, as it hooks up and Greg drives it pretty well! 07/17/2010 Paragon Speedway - out of a 60, Greg drew a 54 LOL. Races were rained out. If they run the make-up feature on Saturday, July 24th, we plan on going back. will update everyone later this week as soon as we find out. 07/13/2010 Twin Cities Raceway Park - (Tuesday) - Drew a 37 - started 4th row inside in 1st heat - 7 cars - Got 3rd in heat. Feature: Started 3rd row inside and finished 4th. Car handled better this time, Greg also found a few issues with engine this week and corrected them. 07/10/2010 Not a good night for Greg, Brownstown Speedway drew a 67. 6th in heat, missed feature by 2. Ran consi, finished 4th (two spots from transfer to feature). next up Twin Cities on Tuesday, July 13th. 07/03/2010 4th in heat, 7th in feature at Twin Cities. 06/27/2010 What an exciting night! 27 cars were competing for the Mark Clark Memorial win. Greg qualified fastest in his group, but was inverted in the start for the heat. He bent up his bumper in the heat, which caused him some steering problems, but still held on to a 4th place finish in the heat. With some fixes, adjustments and a few tweaks with the help of the 7M crew (Kevin and Stacey), and pit crew; Jon Trader, Todd Madden and "Little T", , Greg was ready to come out and give it his best. He started 10th in the feature and finish 5th. Greg raced most of it with most of his front end torn off due to barely clipping a wreck that happened directly in front of him. Tim Clark went on to win this race, and we were happy to see it! Way to go Tim, finally won it for your brother. Greg has some work to do on the car this week, and 7M crew are continuing to help Greg get the car tweaked in. We are very excited with the outcome of this past week and hope Greg is on his way to a much wanted WIN finally. Up next, Twin Cities Raceway Park July 3rd! Oh, and hello Sharon, hope you are doing well!
06/16/2010 Brownstown Speedway - Greg drew a '95' wow. Started very last, last heat 9th and finished 5th. Missed transfer by one. Had to run consi, finished 3rd. They took top 4 to feature. Started 19th in feature and finished 16th. We were happy to make the feature. ;) Below is Greg racing with the in-car cam June 16th, Enjoy!
06/12/2010 Twin Cities Raceway Park Rained out....then we were going to Paragon, they rained out. So NO racing tonight! Next up, Brownstown Speedway Wed. June 16th 06/05/2010 Brownstown Speedway:: Greg drew a 57, whats new again LOL.. Started 6th and Finished 3rd in heat, and finished 9th in feature. Greg said car was hooking up better and he was pleased with its performance. Greg has now been pegged, Greg "The Iceman" Owens LOL......Next up Twin Cities Raceway park june 12. 05/30/2010 Twin Cities: Greg drew a 15. Finished 3rd in heat, and finished 8th in feature. Next up Brownstown Speedway June 5th. 05/22/2010 Twin Cities: Drew a "59" - whats new LOL. Make up feature: Started 11th - Finished 7th. Heat: Started 9th - finished 4th. Feature: Started 7th - Finished 8th. Greg said he used same tires for first feature, heat and last feature, and they went away during last feature, he should of put a new one on before. Oh well. Car did really well for make up feature and during heat. We were pleased. He held on the 4th in points after. Back to Twin Cities next weekend. 05/15/2010 Brownstown Speedway: Greg drew a '96', OUCH. He looked really good in hot laps, he said the car was finally hooked up again at Brownstown. A MUCH needed statement! He started in '10th' in second heat, and not even half way through the race he made his way up to '5th', the car was doing awesome and Greg was running down 4th position fast. THEN; the car lulled and Greg had to be pushed off the track. Broken gear - full spool. Well, that put us out for the night. Bad luck struck again at Brownstown LOL. The current part is NOW being fixed, we have a new one on order and looking at two more for back up. WE WILL NEVER be in THAT position again. We are looking forward to Twin Cities this Saturday. The car will be READY to go! It will be a double feature. If you have been wanting to come and watch Greg race, it would be a good one to come! Greg said he believes the car is finally tuned in (with help of Kevin Borgman, and extra work on his part) and he is definitely hungry for a feature win which we hope happens soon! He is DUE! Don't forget to check out Greg Owens Merchandise and help support Greg at the track! Click here to see merchandise Section for details. 05/11/2010 Greg Owens 2010 T-Shirts, Hero Photos, Die-Cast Replicas of the 2010 Race Car and now 2010 Dirt Scoops/Greg Owens Dirt Head Wall Clings are available! Click here to see merchandise Section for details. 05/08/2010 Greg drew a "63". He started last in the first heat. Through the race we noticed the car was 'smoking' which concerned us and Greg. He told me after the race he was watching the oil presstill ended up 5th.. They ended up calling the races due to a hornet flipping through the fence in turn 3. (Driver was not hurt). So, the on May 22 at Twin Cities, there will be two features for superstocks. Greg will be starting at the back of the pack due to a bad finish in heat, but the car is ok, so hope he can gain some positions. Next race will be at Brownstown Speedway on May 15th! 05/04/2010 Merchandise page has been updated! Greg Owens racecar diecast cars are available for purchase for $50. Click here to see merchandise. Greg has been rained out the past two weekends. If weather permits, Greg will be racing at Twin Cities Raceway Park, Sat. May 8th. 04/17/2010 Greg drew a (9). Finished 5th in his heat and 14th in the feature. Really wasnt a great night, Greg said, he just got out-driven! LOL. He did, however, moved from 16th to 11th in points at Brownstown Speedway. Wow, I guess it matters if you make the feature there and finish the race! Great job Greg, even though he was disappointed in himself for the outcome, it actually did help him in points. ALSO, he is in 4th place for the hard charger competition at Brownstown Speedway as well. Note: During a tech inspection, Greg was told he has to change something on the body. Window area? ANYWAY, he said it was no big deal to trim off what is needed on each side and ribbit it back. LOL. He said it didnt help the car go faster or slower, I think it was done that way for looks haha. Fan appreciation went well! Thanks to all the fans, and little fans for coming up to collect hero photos, candy, coloring pages and to get Greg's autograph! Rick Gumm's little guy was So cute! (Rick is our chassis builder). Greg really enjoyed meeting with them! As soon as we get our shirts, we plan on giving one out each week to a little fan! Keep checking our website! 04/15/2010 Greg and his father (thanks Dave!) has gone over the car getting it ready for Brownstown Speedway this Saturday, April 17th. Greg is currently runing 4th in points at Twin Cities Raceway Park and 16th at Brownstown Speedway. He is also tied 2nd in the hard charger competition at Brownstown Speedway currently. 04/10/2010 (Saturday at Brownstown Speedway) Greg drew a 24, broke during heat, but still finished the race and ended up 6th - but had to be towed off the track. (Broken trailing arm, and missing bolt). He said he could tell throughout the race that something was wrong with rear of car, it wasnt handling, but he tried to finish for a better start for consi. Was able to fix the car before the consi, and started 3rd row inside, finished 4th and made the feature. Started last in feature (20th) and ended up 16th. Not a good night, Greg didnt want to push the car too much as he knew some other things was wrong with the car from Friday. As we had to go to Las Chalupas early, all he was able to get done was the body work, now he needs to go through the rear of the car to make sure nothing else is broken before next weekend. We plan on getting the right side of the car fixed (body wise ) as well, but may be a few weeks. So, all in all not a total wash weekend, he did well at Twin Cities...just bad luck and broken car at Brownstown this time@! Next up if car is ok, is Brownstown this next weekend. 04/10/2010 (Friday at Twin Cities Raceway Park) Greg drew a 45, and he got 4th in his heat. Greg started 7th in Feature and finished 5th. It was a good race, however Brad Cummins spun out in front of him and Greg was directly behind and could not clear him completely when passing him which resulted in tearing up the whole ride side of the car. SO, it isnt so pretty anymore. But the car was hooked up and running good,. We were happy with out come, just wish the car was in one piece. During the heat, he toasted a rim too. One of our chrome ones....ouch. The car will still be at Las Chalupas, but it wont look too great.....think we will use a cover to cover the damage maybe? LOL Next up Brownstown Saturday Night. 04/08/2010 The Dirt Scoops Crew, Driver Greg Owens and the Dirt Scoops #18 Superstock will be on hand at LAS CHALUPAS Mexican Restaurant this Saturday, April 10th from noon to 2 pm for autographs and photos. Bring the kids and pick up some goodies and meet Greg! He will be racing at Twin Cities Raceway Park Friday, April 9th ; and at Brownstown Speedway Saturday, April 10th. 03/28/2010 Greg drew at 24 at Twin Cities April 3rd, 2010. He started 2nd row inside in the 3rd heat and won! He started 2nd row inside in the feature and ended up with a 5th position finish! He stated the car is handling great@! A bit different than he was used to, but it goes where he needs it to go, he feels with a little more seat time in the new set-up he will improve, he is learning how much he can push the cars into the corners now, which is a lot more than he could before! Again, thanks to Alan and Kevin for their help! Next up if work permits, Twin Cities April 9th!~ 03/28/2010 Thanks to Kevin Borgman and Alan Magner for their help this past Friday! Greg had to work Saturday, so we had to sit out this past weekend. we are excited to try out the new setup on the car! Next up, Twin Cities Raceway Park, April 3rd. 03/20/2010 Greg drew a 9, which started him outside up front in heat. He finished 2nd. He started inside row 3 in feature. (Greg made a change to set-up before the feature, which backfired) Lesson learned, he could not get the car to hook up at all during the feature, which caused him to slide back a lot of places when he tried to get on the pedal to only spin and not get traction. He is setting the car back where it was, and learned a hard lesson. DONT change setup before a feature race haha. That is what hot laps are for!~ 03/14/2010 2010 car is done! Greg is back this year with a new color scheme and some new updates on the car! He was doing well towards the end of the 2009 season, knowing the car better, more seat time, and getting the set up on the car close. We are excited on what the 2010 year will bring! The March 13th Car Show was cancelled, and the first race is scheduled for March 20, 2010 at Brownstown Speedway. Greg has the car completed and got it started yesterday, so he is ready! All new updated news will be added to our front page this year. We would also like to welcome our newest sponsor: Wilson Family Insurance! Shirts should be available soon, as well as stickers. Keep checking our merchandise area for udpates. Greg would like to thank his Dad for helping get the car together this year, as well as Lonnie and Buddy Short who stayed up with him late this past Friday getting the engine in the car. He would also like to thank Mike for working over Friday getting the engine together so he could get it in the car. A HUGE thanks to all of our 2010 Sponsors! - Right Auto Parts - Dave's Parking Lot Maintenance - Wilson Family Insurance - PS Graphics - SCP (Speed Custom and Performance) - R2C Performance Products - Kewl Threadz - UV Beach Tanning Salon - DASCO Race Supply 02/03/2010 New year! With Greg having a year of seat time in the superstock, and learning the set up on the car, we believe 2010 will start out a different story. As of now, we plan on running for points at BROWNSTOWN Speedway, using the off weeks visiting and racing at other tracks when possible. Greg just got the CHASSIS back from Rick GUMM (Chassis builder) who updated it with his latest and fixed the problems from 2009. Greg has got it ready now for the body, which will be started soon with the help of Rick Applegate (Rick's Fabricstion). PS Graphics is doing our wrap this year, and the car will have a totally different look, color everything for the year 2010. I am going to start updating the site weekly now with updates, so check back often to keep up with Greg' s progress. We have added a few more sponsors to our llist: SCP Performance Parts and R2C, and KEWL Threads.. 10/10/09 Racing was cancelled due to weather, Greg went from (39th) place in points (due to missing several races at Brownstown, and having a rocky start in the SS) to (20th) in points at Brownstown. Next race is at Twin Cities Oct. 24th. No racing for us on this next weekend. 10/05/09 This past two weeks have been awesome. Greg has made the feature at Brownstown the past two weekends in a row, finished 7th on Sept. 26, and started 9th and finished 6th in the feature at on Oct. 3. Improving each week! However, in the feature, an accident caused Dustin Petro to spin out directly in front of Greg, and he COULD NOT Avoid him, he ended up chalking it up and trying to miss him but sliding in to him sideways, which tore up the one good side of the car. The officials gave Greg his 8th spot back then, because the wreck was in front of him, and he spun out to avoid directly hitting the already stopped Petro on the track. Greg was able to take over two more spots, ending in 6th after. Two more races left, and the car looks awful, however, it is running with the best of them now! Next year will be a whole different story from beginning of the year! GO DIRT SCOOPS CAR!
9/19/09 Twin Cities Raceway Park, Drawed a 25 - Broke in the heat - Started on tail of feature, (14th), finished 5th, behind William Burton, Tim Clark, Clayont Perry and Randy Petro. 9/12/09 Drawed a (76) - started 8th in heat, finished 2nd, made the show. Finished 10th in feature. Greg seems to have the car hooking up during tacky heats, but has a bit of an issue with slick black. Rick Gumm is going to come over on Thursday and look over the car to see if he can offer some suggestions. Greg is SOOOOO close! The car is doing SO much better, but he knows he can do even better now! Next up Twin Cities Speedway! 9/5/09 Drew a 69, whats new haha. Greg started the heat at the tail, and right off there was a huge pile up in front of him even before the first lap was done. He managed to miss all the wrecks thank goodness! His heat finish was not the best which got him the starting position of 14th in the feature. The feature, however, Greg came back with all his might, and almost got past Tim Clark a few times. He ended up passing around 7 cars and finished 6th! Great job! Next up, Brownstown on Sept. 12! 8/29/09 Greg started the heat at the tail, but steering broke, so he didnt finish the race. Got the steering fixed, then started feature in 18th place, started passing and finished in 9th place! Car is handling well, and we have our fingers crossed that he will eventually get a ggod draw for a better start, so hopefully he will get a win finally!!!! 8/22/09 Brownstown - Make UP Feature - got in pile up at beginning and tore up front end and steering. Got the car drivable, ran heat - started 7th (without front end on and nose pc) , finished 3rd and made feature. Went out in the feature, something messed up and the car didnt handle, finished 18th. Car going to Rick Gumm for some fixed to front end of car this week. Next up TWIN CITIES> 8/15/09 Twin Cities - Greg drawed a 46, started 7th in heat, ended with 4th. Feature: Started 7th, ended up 4th! 8/8/09 Twin Cities - Greg started in back of feature, missed transfer spot for feature by one. Had to run consi. Finished 1st! Greg WON! goes to show where you start in a race matters! Started 17th, ended up 11th in feature. 8/1/09 Greg worked diligently on the car all day. We knew we could not make LPS, so he was trying to get the car back together for Brownstown Speedway. Before, we had no luck, and could not get the car to hook up there. He was hoping with the more driving time he had since, and the adjustment he had made to the car, he would do better there this time. (We still don't have the right gear, but hope we would be closer to at least be competative.) We were on our way at 4:45 pm. Pill draw ended at 5:15, so we missed it. There were a total of around 40 Superstocks at Brownstown. Greg was put on the talil of the first heat, that had 10 cars in it. The green flad was thrown, the Dirt Scoops car came to life, heading to the outside passing around 5 cars in one stretch. He hit the corner outside, in the loose dirt and slid, with the cars going back by. Greg got back on track, and began picking the cars off again, passing until he was in 4th position, and enough places to end up in the show! Greg had made his first show at Brownstown Speedway in his superstock! Rain won for the rest of the night and the events will be rescheduled at a later date. FINALLY the car is hooking up, and Greg can show his talent on the track in this class! (The talent everyone who has watched in the past and seen, we will now get to see in this class! What an exciting time for the Owens clan!) 7/31/09 After some time off and some rain outs, Greg finally broke out the car and we headed to Union County. I drew a 52 for him in the pill draw. His heat finsh was not so good, and it put him starting second from last in the feature of 15 cars. In a few laps, it was noticable, the changes he did in the pits, helped. He was making his way up and was in 10th. Caution after caution came out, with one having another driver chalk up right in front of him. He could not help but hit the guy in the rear end, leaving the bumper, nosepiece and front sides of the car visibly smashed. With each lap, the nose piece and bumper were getting worse on the front. Greg was making his way up, through the rest. He was in third place in the feature with two laps to go, when the bumper fell causing the car the propel off to the righ towards the wall. Another caution, which Greg caused this time. Greg got OUT of the car, tore off the bumper, nose pc, and quarter panel, jumped in and finished the race. He still came in 9th. (If the bumper had been off, or not messed it, he was sure to have a good finsh in this race.) 6.06.09 Greg made the feature, and came in 8th behind Troy Clark. Car is doing a lot better! Was in one heck of a pile up in his heat, causing him to have a head ache for a couple of hours after and tore his car up...but managed to finish the heat. Also, was back out in feature, where he came in 8th. Doing better! Seeing the old Greg back on the track!!!! 5.30.09 Greg didn't make the feature. We have come to realize we need a different gear for that track and will not go back until we get the correct gear. Greg got 5th in consi, and another ss got in to him during the heat, which put him back a few spots, couldnt get his position back. Next up, Twin Cities.... 5.23.09 Greg made the feature at Twin Cities, however, had to run consi to do it. He hit the wall in the heat. (He started off well, but said he thinks he started over driving and burnt the tires, because into the race he started spinning and hit the wall, resulting in destroying his new bead lock...sheesh. In the consi, he came in second. IN the feature, he started last and ended up 15th. He pretty much just tooled around he said, trying to get used to the car more and the set up. Greg is still trying to get used to the car, the set up, and is trying different things each week. He is closer, but still has some adjustments to go. Fans, I know you are used to seeing Greg run up front, and I am sure by the end of the year, he will be there again. It is a huge undertaking going to a new class, plus with a new car, trying to get everything just right, and get used to the car. He is leaning just how to set up these cars too. Stay tuned!! Next up Brownstown Speedway May 30. 5.9.09 Greg made the feature at LPS. Car is doing better! Next up, hopefully Bloomington Speedway Friday Night and Twin Cities Saturday if no rain outs. 4.22.09 Greg didnt make the feature last Saturday at Brownstown, came in 6th in consi. Greg has been working on the car all week to try and get some additional speed. Next up Twin Cties Speedway, This Saturday, April 25th 4.07.09 Greg's updated showcase is now available on Dirt Scoops: http://www.indianadirtscoops.net/interviews/gregowensinterview.htm 4.06.09 Greg found some issues with the car again. Greg worked on the car all weekend, and is ready for the next race at Brownstown Speedway, April 11. Need details on the track or the race? visit: http://www.brownstownspeedway.com/ 3 .28. 09 Check out Greg's photo section for a new video of Greg Carrying the in- car DIrt Scoops Cam! Even though Greg was experiencing some car problems, we got to see what he was seeing behing the wheel during a race. Also, notice, during the race he went off the edge of the track, he did this to avoid a wreck that happened directly in front of him. The video is dark, but this is what the driver sees when he is racing! We are sitting tonight out, but hope to get the car back in action next week! Stay tuned. 3 .21. 09 What a night! Greg started hot laps, with something wrong with the engine. No power. Got the car back in the pits, and found the issues, thanks to TIm Clark! Back out in the heat. Greg started off okay, he was surprised at the start, he stated, "I can tell I have been out of a racecar for awhile." But once going, he came in to it and because battling and was getting ready for a 4th place run, when Greg said the car just quit performing. He quickly fell back to last. You could tell from the stands something was wrong, he had no control, and car was jerking back and forth eractically out of the corners. Back in the pits, he got out of the car, and just kept saying, "Something happened! Something happened! It was doing great, then bam, I would push on the gas, and waaa waaa, spin!" He and Colin starting looking over the car, Greg went to the rear end, looking to see if something broke. It ended up being something with the axle. Troy Clark, (thanks so much), lended a hand and they got it fixed. Back on the track int he consi. Greg was carrying the in-car cam with the trip. Of course, Greg started in last place, had some issues with the transmission at first, but finally got going. Greg wasn't able to to do much, it was pushing really bad in the corners. He at least finished the race. Going to Twin Cities to work on the handling of the car on March 22. Keep fingers crossed. 3 .19. 09 Twin Cities Practice was cancelled. Next up is the Browntown Icebreaker Saturday. Guess we will jump in with both feet first....... 3 .14. 09 Late start to practice, we got there an hour in to it. Greg went out, checking out the handling, so he didn't push the car the first two laps. He said it felt good, but the quickener took him a minute to get used to. He was used to fighting a wheel in his old car. He said, this was A LOT EASIER to steer! Then, he was going to push the car a bit to see what she had, and in turn two, the car just stopped, just like he turned the ignition off. He was pushed off the track.
After getting the car home, Greg immediately started to look at the issue. He changed the distributor to his old one, and the car started right up. We are taking the car to the Twin Cities Practice, so hopefully then we will see what kind of power it has. Kudos to RICK GUMM, Greg stated so far the car handled like a dream once he got used to it. SO...LETS SEE HOW SHE DOES THURSDAY AT TWIN CITIES! Practice, (5-9)pm Grandstands are FREE! So come check him out! 3 .10. 09 Greg finished up the last few things to get the car ready to start the engine the first time since the rebuild. Tim Clark, (a good friend, who is an awesome and experienced driver, himself), came over to lend Greg a hand. After giving the car a good look over, and a distributer wiring job, Tim gave Greg the ok to start 'er up. After one, vrroom sound, the car roared to life! Scaling the car is NEXT! Getting it done before Saturday.... Notes: RUMORS TO REST! I think sometimes racing is closely related to soap opera's on how fast rumors get started and spread like wild fire. Well gang, one rumor to rest, NO... GREG DID NOT CHANGE THE CLIP ON HIS CAR! Why? BECAUSE IT IS NEW< HE HAS NEVER HAD IT ON THE TRACK BEFORE< SO WHY WOULD HE DO THIS? OMG. Sigh...any more? Just ask! Vicki 3 . 7. 09 Brownstown Car Show - The weather was awesome! +/- 90 cars were in attendance. Even though we had to 'push' the car in, we made our appearance to get the car out and get Greg back in the mix. We gave away hero cards, candy and prizes to little kids, and met a lot of fans. We didn't win, but we had a blast. Vicki 3 . 5 . 09 Hey all, finally Greg's car was letter, (thanks to PS Graphics, we were able to get a wrap), and we finally are finishing up the last minute things that need to be done on the car. I finally got his new website up, let me know how you all like it, and have the shirts ordered. Brownstown is having their car show this weekend, March 7, 2009, and we plan to get the car out for it for the first time! We probably will not be practicing it this weekend, but look out next weekend! Vicki
12 . 26 . 08 Hey all! As you know, Greg spent all of 2008 building a new superstock. Of course, how did we know the economy was going to take a 'dive', and help to make our transition from purestock to superstock a bit slower than we had planned. In 2008, we purchased a new GUMM Coil Chassis, had Greg's engine totally rebuilt, (thanks to Right Auto Parts!), and started the slow process of pretty much building the superstock from scratch. He could use hardly anything off of his other car! His one major sponsor did not come through, so financially the burden was on us as well. I had talked with several drivers, and usually they had the majority of the stuff to put on their new chassis's when they purchased them. Nope, not us. Some of the things we did have would not work. So, we started watching and buying parts when we could. Slowly, the car was coming together. Slowly, it was starting to look like a superstock. I tried to take a lot of photos in this process, so check out the photos to see the transition of going from chassis to car. With the help of Rick's Fabrication, the cockpit and body was completed. The engine was completed, and we brought it home. Brakes, weight, fuel cell, and other things were done. We are on our way. Vicki
