South
Carolina's 13 year old Zack Mitchell update!
Dirt Scoops did an interview on 12 Zack Mitchell of Enoree,
South Carolina in 2009. Since our interview, Zack has
turned 13, and stepping up to a Super Late Model. We wanted
to update our readers on his status, and how to follow
this young guns career! He is definitely some one to watch
out for in the years to come.
According to sources, 2009 was a great year of racing
in the Crate Division for Zack. Zack has raced at all
his local tracks such as Travelers Rest Speedway, Cherokee
Speedway, Cleveland County Speedway, Buffalo Speedway,
and Chester County Speedway. Zack pulled in 10 Crate Model
wins and his 1st ever Super Late Model win.
Along with 11 race wins Zack had 19 Top 5 finishes.
2010 promises to be an exciting year for Zack. Zack is
currently testing to start in the Super Late Model Division.
So look forward to seeing Zack running with a whole new
field of talented drivers.

Apparently Zack took to racing, like a fish to water,
as if it is instinct. Zack has been racing since he was
5 years old, starting out in go carts. His first track,
per Zack's mom, was in the back yard, for practice. He
started in local events and graduated to national events.

Now, this accomplished, then 12 year old graduated to
the Crate Late Model class, and made a name for himself
at the local tracks. He won his first Crate Late Model
feature on May 10, 2008 at Cherokee Speedway.
Zack started racing go karts at 5 years
old. In 2007, Zack raced in the Young Guns division of
dirt track racing and in 2008 Crate Limited Late Model
Division of dirt track racing.
His most favorable win was beating “Big John”
Pursley on Saturday Night, May 10, 2008 at Cherokee Speedway
in Gaffney, South Carolina.
His most memorable moment was meeting Scott Bloomquist
at March Madness at Cherokee Speedway. His career goal
is to race NASCAR some day.
This kid may be young, but he already racing like a pro!

did you get in to racing?
" Third generation racer. My dad raced #57, my
Papa Jerry raced #57. My dad also worked on Wesley Hood's
racecar (#57). I started racing go-karts at 5. My dad
made a track behind our house and that is where I practiced
until I was good enough to go to a real race. "
Dirtscoops:
Where are you from and where do you currently reside?
" I am from Enoree, South Carolina - still live
there."
Dirtscoops:
Tell us about your family.
" My mom (Jennifer), my dad (Todd). All the grandparents
are really into racing - they never miss a race. I have
a lot of support from my family."
Dirtscoops:
Tell us about the race team (who owns the car, etc).
" My dad owns the car and pretty much does all
the work on the car himself. Four of my dad's friends
help us on the car: Travis Morgan, Keith (Cheeseburger)
Deyoung, Chad Huskey and Jeremy Thomas."

What tracks do you race at and where can fans go to
see you race?
" I started the year racing at Gaffney (Cherokee
Speedway) and Mileback Speedway (Gray Court, South Carolina).
Now that I feel a little more comfortable, we are trying
out a few more tracks in the area: Cleveland County
Speedway, Buffalo Speedway, Harris Speedway. My home
track is Cherokee Speedway."

" I am still learning. All I can say is to try
hard and keep your head on straight."

had beat some of the best in the business."

13 yearo old Zach Mitchell 4th in OSAE Stick Elliot
Memorial

Zack finished fourth in the OSAE Stick Elliot Memorial
at Cherokee Speedway. He has made several appearances
on radio station and in news paper in the past few weeks
as he not only claims the title of youngest driver to
win a GM Crate late model race at Gaffney at the age of
12 years old but he also is now the youngest driver to
