A note from Tami:

I am 33 years old and have been around racing for 30 years. I am married to David, who also races a Modified at Bloomington Speedway, and have two beautiful daughters, Alyssa and Paige.

My dad started racing when I was 3 years old. I grew up at the race track. My dad ran at Sweet Owen Speedway in Spencer, IN, Bloomington Speedway, and Paragon Speedway mostly. He ran at a few other tracks on occasion.

When I was 15, I ran my first Powder Puff race at Bloomington Speedway. I was sold at that point. So, the next year when my brother Greg got a go-kart, of course I had to race too. So we started the season sharing his go-kart at the track at Boggs Lake. I raced go-karts for 3 years.

After that I just spectated for several years until my husband decided to build his first Super Stock. At that point I had the opportunity to run a couple of more Powder Puff races at Bloomington Speedway. I really got a thrill out of racing, but I could not figure out a way for me to race all the time, especially with kids to take care of.

That is until the summer of 2006, when I got up the nerve to ask my dad if he would help me build a race car. I actually asked him if we could build a bomber, but by the end of the weekend, my dad and brother had decided that since my brother was moving up to Modifieds from Super Stocks, that I could start out in a Super Stock. We already had the chassis and most of the equipment. So that’s what we did.

I raced at Bloomington Speedway all season. I also went one week to Lincoln Park Speedway and one week to Brownstown Speedway.

At Bloomington, I was competing for Rookie of the Year. I earned the Hard Charger Award about half way through the season. I made 14 out of 17 feature events, and of those 17 features, the last race of the season I missed due to a broken roll cage and I was not able to compete at all that night for safety reasons. I won the Jeff Gordon Rookie of the Year honors. I was the only female to run in my class.

And a BIG THANK YOU TO ALL MY FRIENDS AND FAMILY !

Here is a run down of all that my family does…My dad, the crew chief, helps me keep my car maintained (of course it is garaged at his house), my brother, Greg, the mechanic, built my motor, helped maintain the motor and did any welding or repairs to the chassis or roll bars, My sister-in-law, Jessie , watched my kids every Friday night so that I could race, my husband, David, helped tow me when I ran on Saturday nights and was there for general support, of course he was racing on Friday nights as well, the kids, Alyssa and Paige, helped me wash the car weekly, and mom supported me by calling me every week before the races started and then we would talk after each race to give her updates on how everything was going. Alyssa, Paige and Haley, were my "Girl Crew".
